The palace that now houses the Gallery was the party villa of the noble Borghese family and is dating back to early XVI century.
Galleria Borghese boasts one of the most impressive art collections in the world, for this reason is a must-see during your holiday in Rome.The Cardinal Scipione Borghese, nephew of Pope V, was a great art collector and true passionate of ancient Roman art, Caravaggio, Bernini, Raphael and Titian works, among the others.
Galleria Borghese was extended down the years and, only in 1902, was being sold to the Italian government along with the entire Villa Borghese gardens. The major part of Scipione Borghese’s collection is still housed in the Gallery, that now includes 20 rooms across 2 floors.
